ABOUT ME

Hello!

I'm Gail and I'm very pleased to meet you.

If you love creatures, upcycling, handmade stuff, a little bit of whimsy and like surrounding yourself with objects with personality, well, you've come to the right place.

ABOUT

Hi there, I'm Marie! I'm the mother of two in Pheonix. I'm the founder of this blog and fitness instructor.

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna.

Welcome to this blog!

I live on a rock in the middle of the Mediterranean, otherwise known as Malta.

It's known for its 300 days of sunshine, lush sea, history and compact size. I've lived here for over 20 years now with my two children and now, two cats.

I would love to say that I spend my days on the beach and gently swimming in the sea before returning home to a glass of wine and fresh local food, but I can't. I'm from the north-east of England and thrive in the cooler weather. Give me that sharp chill in the air in the morning, crocheted cardigans and thick fluffy socks any day (not that I can crochet).

It's currently too hot for my perimenopausal body that seems more and more unable to regulate its temperature by the day. So I tend to spend my days inside, in the aircon, sewing. I like that.

Once Upon A Time

Many years ago there was a little girl who loved fabric, had a head full of ideas and a pair of scissors.

Unfortunately I had zero idea of how to bring my ideas to life. So I tended to cut up fabric into smaller and smaller pieces as I tried to figure it out.

My mother was not impressed.

Luckily, once I got to senior school I was taught needlework. It's that, along with learning how to touch type, that gave me the skills that have accompanied me throughout my life.

As a teenager I made my own skirts, and a rather fantastic multicoloured long velvet coat, among other things.

In time I learned to make shirts, hats, waistcoats, trousers, dresses and pretty much anything I put my mind too. Often without using pattens, or making up the pattern from scratch.

I wish I had some photos of my creations from back then, but I don't.

And Now..

I had a long break from sewing, getting back into it to make clothes and toys for my children when they were small.

This time around, I've discovered a love for making things with a bit of a personality. Whether that's the Silly Little Birds, or brooches or dolls.

I've rediscovered a love for 2nd hand fabrics and trimmings and have found that collecting these is a whole new hobby (that needs its own room).

I'm still making up patterns, albeit not as quickly as I used to (thank you perimenopause for the brain fog, really appreciate that). And I've discovered a love of painting on fabric and free motion embroidery.

It's never too late to be more creative, and it's never too late to learn.
